What can be patched?

FabPatch repair patches can be used to patch, cover and repair many types of fabrics. FabPatch are best suited on clothes that have been washed several times. They are also suitable for shoes, bags, chairs, hats, gloves, cushions, beanbags, curtains – the list goes on!

Where can I fix my ripped clothes?

With FabPatch you can repair anywhere and anytime because of the rub-on backing.

Keeping a few patches in a drawer means you can fix things quickly at home without waiting for an appointment or taking your item elsewhere.

Taking a few FabPatch with you when you go camping or hiking means an unexpected tear or hole will be fixed in minutes.

Are FabPatch patches water proof?

Yes. FabPatch Extreme is weather proof, meaning it is fully waterproof and designed to withstand sustained rain, wet conditions and tougher outdoor environments. If the item will be regularly exposed to heavy rain or wet conditions, FabPatch Extreme is the recommended choice.

FabPatch Stretch is weather resistant, meaning it can handle light rain, splashes and general outdoor use, but it is not designed for prolonged or heavy exposure to water.

Do I need an iron or special tools to apply FabPatch?

No. FabPatch does not require an iron or any special tools. It uses a simple rub-on application method, similar to applying a sticker, making it quick and easy to attach to clothing and gear.

Can I cut FabPatch to size?

Yes. FabPatch can be cut to the size and shape you need.

We recommend not using pieces smaller than approximately 3 cm, as this ensures there is sufficient adhesive surface to properly bond with the fabric for long-lasting and durable results.

Round off any pointy corners you may have created.

Can I wash clothes after I patch them?

Yes. You can wash patched clothes and garments as normal once the patch has had time to set.

Wait at least three days before the first wash and don't wash over 40 degrees for FabPatch Stretch range.

The patch can be tumbled dried.

How do I adhere my FabPatch?

FabPatch is adhered by rubbing it on with a blunt object, like a spoon.

The following variables affect your FabPatch:

  1. Chemicals.
When used correctly, the FabPatch should withstand multiple washes on the textile. However, the chemicals used in the clothes can affect the permanence of the clothing patch.
  2. Fastening.
In order to last, the FabPatch should be rubbed firmly into place, for at least a minute, preferably a few minutes. You can use, for example, a spoon. If desired, the fastening can be enhanced by ironing the garment according to the care instructions for a maximum of 10 seconds.
  3. Fixation time.
The clothing patch must adhere 3 days before the first wash. The patched product can be used right away, but extreme stretching and/or wetting during the first three days can also reduce the product’s durability. The longer the FabPatch is allowed to adhere before the first wash and also between washes, the better it adheres.

  4. Textile coatings and different materials.
Various dirt, mould and water repellence treatments to clothing and gear can have the effect of repelling the FabPatch. That’s why FabPatch is not recommended for coated textiles. Although they have adhered well on some coated ones, we cannot guarantee their performance.

100% cotton is a more challenging material than others and special attention should be paid to its fastening by pressing. Ironing improves the washing durability, especially in 100% cotton clothes.

According to studies, durability is better in clothes made of artificial fibres, and in cotton clothes with even a small percentage of artificial fibres.

If the clothing patch comes off immediately after the first wash and the reason is not due to the above, contact us at hello@fabpatch.au! We are constantly developing the product and we listen closely to consumer experiences.

How long does a FabPatch last?

The washing life depends on the material of the clothes, its age, how the FabPatch is attached, where it is attached, and how soon it is washed.

We've seen FabPatch last with 5 years + of heavy use and washing.

However, there are a huge number of variables in textiles, for example we know that organic cotton is more challenging than other materials.

Follow the instructions for use to extend the life of the patch.
You can use a patched garment in a tumble dryer.

What is in a FabPatch?

FabPatch contains solvent-free, vegan, flexible glue which meets EU requirements for solvent-free glue.

FabPatch does not contain any substances harmful to health or the environment.

The Stretch collection is made of recycled polyester.

Do you have an all natural fibre patch?

Yes will have a 100% mulesing-free merino repair patch arriving in March 2026.

You can place the merino repair patch on the inside (wrong side) of the garment so that the soft wool surface rests against the skin.

We also encourage you to stick your FabPatch on the outside of your gear and show it off!

Are stick-on patches as strong as iron-on patches?

FabPatches are stronger than the iron-on patches we've tested. We have FabPatch items with patches adhering for 5+ years.

A good stick-on patch is designed for everyday wear and washing, just like a traditional iron-on. As with any patch, the key is following the instructions – apply to suitable fabrics, press firmly, and let the bond set before washing.

What are your customer reviews like?

How are the patches tested?

FabPatch clothing patches have been standards tested in the autumn of 2018 and 2019, and in 2021 and 2023 by hundreds of families at home. Based on these tests, the product has been further developed.

In addition, our partners have been testing and developing the product ourselves with us for several years.

We are constantly working towards an even better FabPatch and we actively collect feedback. Contact us if you have any questions or ideas!

Will using FabPatch prevent my garment from being recycled?

No. FabPatch patches are small and make up only a very minor part of a garment. They do not prevent the item from being mechanically or chemically recycled. In recycling processes, trims, labels and small additions are already handled as part of standard textile recycling streams, and FabPatch does not meaningfully change that.

How do I recycle FabPatch packaging?

The cardboard hanger can be placed in your kerbside recycling (yellow bin). The soft plastic bag is resealable and can be reused for storage, or it can be taken to a dedicated soft plastics recycling drop-off point, such as participating local Council recycling centres.

Can I use stick-on patches on school uniforms and kids’ clothes?

Yes. That’s one of the best uses for them. No-iron patches are ideal for knees, seats and small holes in school pants, leggings, tracksuit bottoms and casual shorts. You can apply them from the outside or from the inside of the garment, so the repair can be neat and barely noticeable if you don’t want the patch to show.

What if I don’t have an iron – can I still fix a hole in clothes?

Absolutely. That’s exactly where stick-on patches shine. Instead of learning how to iron on patches or hunting for an ironing board, you just peel and press. The rub-on backing repairs anywhere and anytime!

Do I need to sew around a stick-on patch?

With FabPatch, you don’t need to sew around the edges. The adhesive is designed to bond without extra stitching, as long as you press it down firmly and follow the care instructions.
