How 298 People Joined FabPatch to Celebrate Repair Culture at The Great Global Mend

Saturday past, the air in Perth was buzzing with energy, purpose, and the rhythmic sound of mending. It was the day of The Great Global Mend — an unofficial world record attempt uniting communities around the simple act of textile repair.

FabPatch proudly took part, bringing together hundreds of passionate menders across Perth to celebrate a shared mission: to mend, not discard.

A Community That Mends Together

At 11 a.m. sharp, 298 participants — from local repair enthusiasts to first-time menders — gathered their tools and joined hands in a simultaneous act of sustainability. Each person mended one item, and together, they achieved something extraordinary, establishing an unofficial world record of 298 people mending simultaneously.

This collective effort saved an estimated 5 tonnes of CO2 emissions — the equivalent of powering three average homes for a year. That’s a tangible reminder that every small act of repair makes a big environmental difference.

Thank You, Perth

“Thank you to the Perth community who came out on Saturday to mend with us and establish the unofficial mending world record  — we couldn’t be prouder!”

FabPatch extended heartfelt thanks to all the local councils who partnered with them to make the event possible. These councils are true leaders in the circular economy, setting an example for others to follow in building more sustainable, resilient communities.

Repair Over Replace — A Movement Takes Hold

As one participant shared:

“Here I am mending at 11 a.m. last Saturday for The Great Global Mend — one of 298 menders at the countdown! What a great way to get the message out: repair over replace. It was fun and a bit silly — I know I’ve found my people!”

That sentiment captures the heart of the movement. Repairing isn’t just practical — it’s joyful, social, and empowering.

FabPatch’s unique, no-sew repair solution made the experience even more accessible. Participants could easily rub on their patches, fix torn garments, and breathe new life into their belongings — all without needing sewing skills.

Driving the Circular Economy Forward

The Great Global Mend and FabPatch’s involvement serve as a blueprint for how brands can make sustainability tangible and community-driven. Every council and participant contributed to something larger — a ripple effect of awareness and change.

Together, they showed that sustainability isn’t just about large-scale innovation — it’s about collective, everyday actions.

From Patches to Purpose

FabPatch’s mission has always been to make repair part of daily life — not a chore, but a choice. Our patches are designed to help people extend the life of their favourite items while reducing textile waste.

By launching The Great Global Mend, FabPatch demonstrated that when communities come together, sustainability becomes a celebration.

Looking Ahead

The energy from this record-setting day continues to grow. As FabPatch and its partners plan future events, the message remains clear: every mend counts.

Whether it’s fixing a small tear or patching up an old favourite, every repair helps reduce waste, save energy, and protect our planet.

FabPatch is proud to be part of this movement — leading by example and inspiring Australians everywhere to join the repair revolution.

See you next year when we attempt breaking this record!
